Things I've Pondered in Recent Days

In recent days, in many other journals, the topics of courtesy, manners and politeness have been discussed in great depth. I have made my own comments on these other journals and am not going to go into great detail about anything that has already been said. However, a few thoughts have been rattling around in my head while I've been attempting to get Primbroke Manor ready for the housewarming party, and rather than putting up with them being loose and unruly, I thought that if I perhaps put them to paper, then they'd be laid to rest. As this is my own personal journal, I would like to remind any gentle readers who happen upon it that these are my own thoughts and opinions. I am not going to force anyone to follow them, but I believe that they deserve a modicum of respect.

The first thing that has rather amused me are those people who are going around saying that they know the *real* reason behind the departure of some citizens, and low and behold, it is *not* the reason put forth by the persons doing the leaving. I would love to know where these people took their mind reading course because I would dearly love to have that skill. I do realize that people sometimes do not give complete reasons for their actions, but honestly, only they know what their own personal thoughts are, and perhaps anyone near and dear to them that they shared them with.

I am also amazed that a simple request, that of people conducting themselves in a more respectful manner, put forth on a personal journal should cause others to froth at the mouth. What is wrong with behaving like a grown, civilized adult who is capable of conversation that reads slightly higher than a trashy tabloid magazine? Is that really too much to ask? Just because you can say something, does not necessarily mean you should. (and yes, I'm sure a few people will point out that perhaps I should not be saying what I am now....as this is my personal journal and not a public forum, my apologies but hard cheese to you).

While our typists are all supposedly chronologically adults, I believe there is a vast difference between being an adult and acting like one. Yes, we are all old enough to talk about sex, drugs, alcohol, etc, but is it really an adult thing to do to flog those topics to death on a public forum? To me, that makes me think of something teenagers do when trying to prove to the "old folks" how grown up they really really are. We all know what a penis is, I would assume that most of our typists have engaged in sexual behaviour and acts. However, I also think that there is something to be said for having a little mystery and "not putting all the goods in the shop window" as my grandmothers would say (and they were no fools). Being vulgar and crass is just not very adult behaviour, in my books anyhow. A good double entendre requires wit and skill.

Finally, and I would imagine this one may irritate a few people, I am puzzled by those people who attend a group function and then go off sulking and announce to the world that they were shunned (or ignored). What would you like the rest of us to do about that? If I were at the event, I am sorry for missing your arrival or greeting (providing you said hello...I cannot see everyone at all times). I do try to greet people, but at times I (and I'm sure others as well) may be tied up in several personal IM's or my typist may have been called away briefly for one of several RL reasons. I am sorry for any part I may have played in your feeling neglected, but really, does throwing a guilt trip to all of the Independant State of Caledon really make you feel better?

Oh, I don't think that the OpenSim debacle sparked this either. I know I've been talking in private to close friends about this very subject months ago.

Anyhow, that is all from me and my little corner of the world. I intend to say nothing further but to move on and hope for the best in the future.

That's about where I am. Though I do think the OS debacle played into it (causing some emotional fragility, let's say), the extant issues were fixed in place long before the Lindens even had their first meeting on raising the prices of OpenSpaces and Homespaces.
