Happy Halloween

Random Musings

I sit with a cup of piping hot tea within reach, the pot keeping at a suitable temperature under it's cozy and put pen to paper to jot down a few things about the past weeks.

It has been a busy time...I have been kept very busy with special orders, the food for Baron Wulfenbach's Consulate grand opening, the special tea sandwiches for Mrs. Warburton's tea party this upcoming Sunday as well as a couple of special cakes. Of course, one mustn't forget the whirl of gaiety that swirls around us in both Caledon and Steelhead. It has been a busy time indeed.

Now that I've completed my custom orders, all except one, I had a moment to look around Davaar and notice that it was in dire need of a thorough going over before winter set in. All the white linens were boiled with lemons and hung out to dry in the late autumn sun, so they'd be white as the snow that will soon be upon us. Carpets were taken out to the garden and beaten, releasing the dust of summer trapped within the fibres. All the windows were washed and polished with old newspaper to make them sparkle. I had the chimneys cleaned (what a shortage of good chimney sweeps we have in Caledon!) and everything was scrubbed and polished to it's best. Tiresome job, but necessary to keep the estate up to it's best form. I'm sure Rosehaven will require a similar treatment, but as it is smaller, the work will be less.

I look forward to the coming of winter this year. Last year, I did not have a place to call my own until two days before Christmas, when I was fortunate to be able to lease Madame BlueRock Dimsum's house in Steelhead. What a difference a year makes! Now not only do I have a loving husband who is more than I could have possibly dreamed of, I have two homes to decorate for the season! I am also looking forward to going skating. I had purchased skates last year and then it seemed the very next day winter was over. I know my Beloved and I have discussed hosting a skating party at Davaar sometime in the new year.

I suppose I ought to get back to work. Edward will be arriving home soon from working on his latest project and I should be sure dinner will be ready. What man wouldn't like coming home to a house that has a merry fire crackling in the hearth, a hearty meal on the table and everything at it's sparkling best? We will have to decide what delightful things we will leave for the ghouls and goblins that will come calling on All Hallow's Eve and then I imagine we will have a quiet evening in, Edward reading the paper or going over the blueprints for his newest build and I with my knitting or needlework.

The Room of Unspeakable Horrors!

I think this sign sums it up the best. If you have a chance, during your evening constitutional, you may want to stop in at the garden of Pearse'd and Cut, located on the SW corner of Victoria City. There you will find a room that contains unspeakable horror. Those of weak constitution should not venture forth, for their own well being. We do not have medical staff on the grounds to revive you, should you succumb to the terrors that lie within.

Steelhead Contests and Happenings

In celebration of Halloween, Steelhead is hosting two contests....one open to the public and the other open to the residents of the City.

The first contest is the pumpkin carving or Jack'o'lantern contest. This is open to everyone who cares to enter. The rules are simple and are below.

1. Must be 20 prim or less
2. Must be your own work....in other words, not a cool pumpkin you bought
3. NO mega prims
4. Must be suitable to a pg rating
Please drop your no mod/no copy jack-o-lantern on Christine McAllister by Thursday, October 18th, 6 pm SLT. Voting will open at 7:30 pm SLT on that date and will continue until 5pm SLT on October 26th.
All Jack-o-lanterns will be displayed on the lawn at the west end of the main town square.
Winners will be announced at the Costume Ball, Friday October 26th, Steelhead Grande Hotel and Ballroom, 7-9pm SLT.

The second contest is the house decorating contest. This is open only to the residents of Steelhead. However, please feel free to check out the handiwork of our townsfolk by wandering around the town to see what ghouls and goblins are about (I think we may even have a burning tree or two about).

The Spookiest House in Town

In celebration of one of the more "fun" holidays in the year, my beloved husband, Lord Primbroke is sponsoring a decorating contest for the residents of Caledon. Posterboards containing notecards detailing the rules of the contest can be found at almost every Caledon Telehub. However, the rules can be found below, if you are interested in saving time tracking the information down and would rather get busy decorating your house.

The rules are simple.

1. Decorate your home in your favourite Halloween decorations.

2. Send me (Edward Pearse) a notecard with your name, a LM of the property and a little description no later than the 21st of October.

3. A notecard of all houses in the competition will be made available to Caledonians.

4. Caledonians lodge their votes for their favourite house by 27th of October.

5. In the event of a tied vote, I have the deciding vote.

Winners will be announced on this blog and contacted directly to receive a prize of L$2000 and a prize plaque.
